Digital Impressions

Digital impressions are a modern, efficient, and comfortable way to take precise impressions of your mouth! If you have ever had to have a traditional impression or mold taken when you have visited the dentist in the past, you know that they can be unpleasant and uncomfortable. We are pleased to utilize our digital impression system to eliminate the need for messy, goopy putty. While this technology can make the experience more comfortable for any patient, it is especially good for patients who gag easily. The digital impression system is less invasive than traditional impressions and molds, and it is extremely accurate.

Some of the other benefits of digital impression technology include:

  • Digital impressions can be used for creating dental restorations, such as crowns, as well as orthodontic aligners.
  • No messy “goop”
  • The scanner can be quickly taken out of your mouth if you ever feel uncomfortable, and we can easily start and stop the scanning process as needed
  • Digital impressions require much less time than traditional impressions, helping to make your appointment more efficient

CEREC Same-Day Crown Technology

In the past, the process for making dental restorations like crowns often took multiple appointments, as well as a considerable amount of careful effort from your dentist and their team. However, CEREC makes things considerably quicker and more convenient – without sacrificing anything in terms of quality. Using our CEREC technology, Dr. Jenkins can mill high-quality, custom-made dental restorations right here in our Idaho Falls office. Imagine walking into our office with a damaged tooth, and then leaving that same afternoon with a brand-new, lifelike restoration – that’s exactly what CEREC lets us accomplish!

CT/Cone Beam Scanner

Cone beam 3D technology is an imaging system that provides our dentist and team with a three-dimensional image reconstruction of your teeth, mouth, jaw, neck, ears, nose, and throat. Dr. Jenkins may use dental cone beam 3D imaging to:

  • Plan dental implant placement
  • Evaluate the jaws and face
  • View the head and neck as a comprehensive whole
  • Diagnose tooth decay (cavities) and other dental problems
  • Detect endodontic problems and plan root canal therapy
  • Analyze dental and facial trauma
  • Plan and evaluate the progress of orthodontic treatment
  • Visualize abnormal teeth
  • Assess a TMJ disorder

Cone beam 3D imaging is effective for diagnosing and evaluating dental conditions, as well as planning treatments. One of the advantages of 3D cone beam technology is that it provides our dentist and team with a view of your mouth and supporting structures that is more comprehensive than that provided by digital X-rays!

DEXIS CariVu™ Cavity Detection System

Two dentists looking at X ray of teeth

We are pleased to use a cavity detection system that helps our dentist and team detect cavities at the earliest possible stage. This painless system helps us determine the health level of the tooth. If a tooth is decayed, the system will alert our team. We are then able to formulate a treatment plan to improve the health of that tooth.

Because the system can detect tooth decay before it is visible to the naked eye, we are able to treat decay before it becomes more extensive and causes more damage. When the decay is treated early, we are able to provide a more conservative restoration that causes less discomfort, is less expensive, and preserves more of your natural tooth structure. Tooth decay may even be reversible if it is detected and treated in the very early stages.

Intraoral Cameras

When it comes to modern dentistry, there’s no greater advantage than being able to take a closer and more detailed look at certain oral structures. Our intraoral camera is one of the most important devices here in our office, as it lets us do just that. It’s a specialized, wand-like device that has a digital camera on one end, which is connected to a nearby screen. Dr. Jenkins can use this camera to closely inspect practically every part of your smile, no matter how small or where it’s located. This makes hidden problems much easier to spot and treat!
