What Happens During a Root Canal?

The root canal process begins with us numbing your mouth, to ensure that no pain is felt during the procedure. We’ll then carefully make a small hole in the affected tooth to access its pulp, the innermost chamber that’s often where the infected tissue is located. From there, we can begin clearing out the tooth and replacing the damaged portions with a special, biocompatible filling called gutta-percha. The tooth is also sanitized before it’s sealed back up, and typically, a custom-made dental crown is placed on top to protect it from further harm.
